ISTT TRENCHLESS MASTERCLASS

The international Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT) is a not-for profit society established for the purpose of providing education and training to advance the science and practice of trenchless technology for the public benefit. ISTT has delivered training courses in the Middle East, North America, SE Asia and Australasia. NO-DIG INDIA SUMMIT 2013 will feature four training modules.

Dr Samuel T. Ariaratnam is a Professor in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.

He received his B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and his M.S. & Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His educational and research interests lie in the area of Urban Infrastructure Systems with an emphasis on Horizontal Directional Drilling and Trenchless Pipe Replacement.

Sam has published over 150 technical papers, holds three patents, and is active in numerous professional organizations. He is a co-author of two books related to underground infrastructure.

In 2006, Dr Ariaratnam was named to the Phoenix Business Journal’s prestigious “Top Forty Under 40” list. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the International Society for Trenchless Technology.

Dr Ariaratnam is a registered professional engineer in the State of Arizona and the Province of Ontario (Canada).

Dr Dec Downey is a Chartered Engineer and Environmental Manager with more than 30 years experience of a wide range of trenchless technologies. He has served ISTT as Vice Chairman 2005-7 and Chairman 2007-10.

Dr Downey has a PhD in Material Science from the University of Bath (UK). He worked on the development and international licensing of specialist jacking pipe and pipe rehabilitation methodologies.

Dr Downey received the Kurose Award from the Japan Microtunnelling Association for his contribution to technology transfer. He spent 15 years with Insituform Technologies in Research and Development, manufacturing and Asian regional management and, 7 years with Jason Consultants Group as a principal specialising in pipe condition assessment and rehabilitation.

Dr Downey has taught a variety of courses on trenchless technology, particularly cured in place pipe and pressure pipe rehabilitation for ASCE, ASTT, UKSTT and ISTT.
